A retail worker's plea
Black Friday, a day filled with shopping and even fighting
at some stores. For most stores, this date marks the beginning of the holiday
shopping season. The holiday music plays on repeat and sales are expected to
increase.

This may be odd to say, but after working in retail, I prefer
cyber Monday. There is less confrontation. You can only be mad at yourself, the
internet, or I guess the whole company, if you miss out on a sale.
Once you see the pure anger in a soccer mom’s eyes as she is
yelling at you about not having the sizes she needs, you will agree with me. But
listen lady, and other angry shoppers, IT IS OUT OF OUR CONTROL. Please
understand this, we are begging you.
The number of people who think it is socially acceptable to
scream at sales associates when things happen, that are not our faults, are
drastically increasing. The other day a man yelled at me because he lost his
gift card. WHY?! How is this my fault?
I understand your frustration, I have been there, we have
all been there. We just know that we shouldn’t yell for another gift card after
we have lost it, due to our own stupidity.
When you go to a restaurant, or a store, please take a deep
breath before screaming at workers. You may have had a bad day, but believe me, I bet their day has been worse. Please collect your thoughts
and talk in a calm manner. We do are best to fix your problems, and this well
be more efficiently done if you are not screaming bloody murder.
