Tips for a successful visit to my store
Retail can be stressful. You have to be calm, cool, and collected to ensure your day goes smoothly. Ironically, I am usually caffeinated, stressed, and nervous.
A lot of my friends say they do not have the temperament to work where I do. I personally think things could go smoother if people took a few things into consideration:
1.
The Golden rule
a.
Believe it or not, that rule your kindergarten
teacher told you back in the day still applies! If you are nice to us, we will
be nice to you. If you are rude, it may take an associate 15 minutes to figure
out we don’t have what you are looking for.
2.
Saying please goes a long way!
a.
If we have free things, I will be more apt to
give them to you if you ask politely or are nice!
b.
I know, this is scary that this is a tip. You
would be surprised how often people throw clothes at us and tell us to “fetch”
something. A woman once ruined my perfectly good sweater by throwing a raincoat
at me.
3.
If you do not see something on the rack:
a.
Sometimes we do have more product in the back
room.
i. If we do not have what you are looking for, I can
usually get it shipped from another store to you!
1.
So, no, I can not hand craft garments out back.
4.
I do not get paid enough to sit through you
screaming at me over our return policy, or other things that I can not control.
a.
As much as I wish I did, I have basically no say
in the matter.
b.
Even if you are rude, I will smile through the
pain.
i. I
need money, so yes, I will sit though you shouting at me.

5.
Asking for a manager does not always fix the
problem or change the answer.
a.
There are some exceptions to this rule, but please
refer to rule one when discussing issues.
b.
I get very uncomfortable when you ask to speak
to my manager and I have to awkwardly say it is me. Yes, I am as surprised as
you are that I have this position.
